Set up a staging copy and review changes
Clone a production website into a subdirectory, custom directory, or custom subdomain. You can also clone a backup or staging site to a separate database. Use the copy to test extension and theme updates, then push changes to production with one click, including extensions, themes, and media files. Set visitor roles for people who access a clone or backup, such as clients or external developers. Login protection and no-index handling are available for cloned and backup websites.
Automatic search and replace updates links and paths during cloning, backup, restore, and migration. Background processing is intended to avoid slowing the live website.
Choose a backup and restore plan
Create a full-site, database-only, or files-only backup, then restore a backup when needed. Schedule recurring backups by time and interval, set retention settings, and use custom backup names. Download or upload backups for transfer. Email notifications are sent if a backup cannot be created.
Save backups to a custom folder or external storage, including Google Drive, Amazon S3, (S)FTP, and Dropbox. Cloud, offsite, and remote backup processes are supported, along with multisite backup and restore.
Move sites and use backups in development
Migration workflows transfer WordPress to another host, server, or domain. Remote Sync pulls a WordPress site from one server to another using an API key. WP STAGING CLI can turn a WP STAGING backup into a local Docker-based development site. Multisite support also applies to cloning and migration.
Server and data handling
WP STAGING is designed for low-resource environments, including shared hosting. It supports Apache, Nginx, Microsoft IIS, and LiteSpeed Server. Data stays on your server unless you select a transfer or remote storage workflow. Logging helps you review backup and staging activity.
