What a cookie audit can display
A cookie audit is recommended to identify which cookies a website sets, what they do, and when they expire. Cookie Control includes a mechanism for controlling user consent. Connect the relevant cookie-using elements to Cookie Control, and review cookies created by other plugins to determine whether they need additional JavaScript connections.
Cookie Control’s controls cover the elements connected to it. Installing and configuring the plugin alone does not establish compliance when a website uses other cookies that have not been connected.
Match the API key host to the site
An API key from Civic UK is required. Cookie Control works with version 8 and version 9 API keys. The host associated with the key must match the website configuration, including whether the site uses a www subdomain. A key associated with one host version may not work with the other. Where appropriate, a 301 redirect can keep requests on one host version.
Install and configure
Install Cookie Control in WordPress, choose the appropriate paid edition, and enter the API key. Review the implementation and customization options, confirm the host domain, and connect the cookie-using elements identified during the audit. Test the consent experience across the site before publishing the configuration.
Website owners remain responsible for understanding the cookies their site uses and maintaining an appropriate privacy policy.
