Glossary by Codeat PRO
Create glossary terms and definitions, then let Glossary by Codeat PRO link matching words in posts and pages to their entries. Readers can see a highlight or tooltip while reading, follow an internal or external link, or use a footnote. Terms can also be grouped into glossary or dictionary sections. The extension works with the classic WordPress editor and Gutenberg.

Organize terms and pick where they appear
Group entries by category and make vertical archives with the Lists of Terms and Lists of Categories shortcodes. Choose whether glossary features execute across pages or only on selected pages, archives, taxonomies, or custom post types. Add synonyms for a term, highlight linked terms, choose from four free tooltip templates, and show an icon for external links.
PRO controls for matching and presentation
The PRO edition includes the free feature set and includes controls for how terms are linked and displayed:
- Customize tooltip styling and manage tooltip behavior on mobile devices.
- Generate glossary term footnotes.
- Match case-sensitive terms and choose whether only the first occurrence of the same or any key term is linked.
- Prevent term links from appearing on a term’s own description page.
- Add an alphabetically ordered term list, or create a customizable glossary index with the PRO shortcode or block.
- Customize glossary index blocks in Gutenberg, Elementor, Fusion Builder, Divi, Beaver Builder, and SiteOrigin.
- Add custom fields to key terms and use the Advanced Custom Fields integration.
- Use advanced shortcodes to parse content with Visual Composer or another page builder.
Tools and integrations
The plugin includes Glossary Search Bar, Latest Terms, and Glossary Categories widgets, plus CSV term imports and Schema.org DefinedTerm support. ChatGPT integration can help generate term content and requires an OpenAI API key. Supported integrations include Yoast SEO, Ninja Forms, Elementor, Bricks Builder, Fixed TOC, Easy Table of Contents, YARPP, User Role Editor, WPML, and Polylang. For WPML or Polylang, set the language on each post type where the glossary should run. Custom theme integrations are available for Bricks, Divi, and Genesis.
For example, a food site can link ingredient names to definitions, while a fishing shop can explain equipment and suggest related products from its pages. A fan encyclopedia can organize terms about a series, and an affiliate website can add affiliation URLs and descriptions to tooltip areas.
To get started, create terms and definitions, configure matching and presentation, and choose where glossary capabilities should run. Place an index with the PRO shortcode or block, then personalize it in a supported visual editor if needed. The PRO version includes dedicated support; documentation and a demo site are also available.
