WordPress plugin
Media Cleaner Pro
Media Cleaner uses smart analysis to identify media entries and files that may be unused, along with broken entries. Results can include a preview, the reason an item was flagged, its size, and references showing where a file is used. Scan visibility depends on how each website’s plugins and builders shop media references, so check the findings before cleanup.
How Media Cleaner Pro extends Media Cleaner
Media Cleaner uses smart analysis to identify media entries and files that may be unused, along with broken entries. Results can include a preview, the reason an item was flagged, its size, and references showing where a file is used. Scan visibility depends on how each website’s plugins and builders shop media references, so check the findings before cleanup.
Media Cleaner supports media types including retina and WebP versions and has been tested with Gutenberg, a range of themes, and WooCommerce.
Inspect uploads, the live site, or scans from the command line
- Filesystem Analysis: Scans the physical /uploads directory and matches files against the WordPress Media Library. The comparison shows which files are absent from the library; it does not by itself display how every builder or plugin uses them.
- Live Site Scan: Analyzes the online version of your website and may improve accuracy in some cases.
- WP-CLI support: Lets you execute the plugin at a higher speed or automate scans through direct server access using SSH.
Check coverage for builders and content add-ons
Pro adds support for complex plugins and builders, including ACF, Meta Box, Divi Builder, Fusion Builder for Avada, WPBakery Page Builder, Visual Composer, Elementor, Beaver Builder, Brizy Builder, Oxygen Builder, Slider Revolution, Justified Image Grid, and Avia Framework, among many others.
Media can be stored in custom fields, builder layouts, sliders, and other content structures. Scan information indicates which builders and plugins are supported, which are not, and what the scan cannot see. Review that coverage when a result involves a tool with limited visibility.
Review findings before permanent deletion
Reported items can be moved to Media Cleaner’s internal trash for review. The References tab shows where a file is used, and trashed files can be recovered in one click. Permanent deletion requires explicit confirmation. Keep a backup plan in place before cleanup.
Set up and run a scan
Install and activate Media Cleaner Pro in WordPress. Configure the available scan options in Cleaner under the Meow Apps menu, then open Cleaner under Media and run a scan. Review the reported media and files, move appropriate items to the internal trash, and check them before confirming permanent deletion.
Optional AI assistant workflow
Media Cleaner can work with an AI assistant through the MCP server of AI Engine. Enable MCP in Media Cleaner’s options, and an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can run a scan, read results, explain why media was reported, ignore false positives, and help with cleanup. The utilities report compatibility and scan visibility so doubtful cases can be checked. Items still go to the trash, and permanent deletion requires explicit confirmation.
