Tooltip content and placement

Create tooltip terms in the administration area and write their content with the standard WordPress editor. A tooltip can contain text, pictures, audio, video, buttons, social icons, PDFs, or other HTML. Supported media and content settings include maps, QR codes, GIFs, YouTube and SoundCloud content, and Wikipedia previews.

Automatic detection can match configured terms in posts, pages, tags, menus, products, comments, WooCommerce descriptions, ACF fields, and other supported areas. Settings can apply a tooltip to the first matching term on a page or to every match. Shortcodes provide more control over placement:

  • Keyword and content: [tooltips keyword="term" content="tooltip text"]
  • Wrap selected text with tooltip content: [tooltips content="tooltip text"]selected text[/tooltips]
  • Reference a tooltip by ID, including in page-builder layouts: [tooltip_by_id tooltip_id="222"]

Tooltips can also be attached to gallery image descriptions when using supported gallery extensions such as NextGEN.

Paid edition tools and integrations

Pro and Pro Plus are presented as a wider toolkit for tooltips, glossaries, directories, listings, and WooCommerce content. Their listed capabilities include more than 20 advanced add-ons and over 400 configuration options for tooltip styling and behavior.

The add-on list covers ACF, Elementor, Gutenberg, Brizy, WooCommerce, Polylang, YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Unsplash, PDFs, Wikipedia, forms, tables, pricing tables, BuddyPress, and bbPress. The plugin also lists integrations with WPForms, TablePress, Contact Form 7, and other supported tools.

WooCommerce placements include product titles, descriptions, attributes, tags, additional information, galleries, pricing tables, and custom product fields. Tooltip content can include product details, media, QR codes, or buttons such as Add to Cart.

Glossaries and directories

Use the [glossary] shortcode to make a dictionary-style listing of tooltip terms. The glossary can include optional images, alphabetical navigation, SEO-friendly index pages, and multilingual support.

Other shortcodes can display a WooCommerce product directory with [productdirectory], a job listing table with [joblistingtable], a member directory with [member_directory], or a post list with [postdirectory].

Setup

Install the paid edition through the WordPress administration area and activate it. In the plugin options, create tooltip terms, add content with the editor, and select how each tooltip should appear. Let automatic detection handle supported placements or use a shortcode for a specific location. Test the selected posts, products, menus, forms, or other areas before publishing.
