Custom paths for individual WordPress content
Custom Permalink Editor Pro lets site owners, content creators, marketers, and developers set readable paths for selected content while keeping the site's overall permalink structure unchanged. Use it for posts, pages, categories, tags, landing pages, portfolio entries, product pages, and content moved from another platform.
Pro includes the plugin's custom permalink utilities and adds full editing for custom post types. Existing custom permalinks for those types continue to work. You can also create new custom permalinks and edit existing custom URLs for them.
Editing and use cases
In the WordPress administration area, open a post or page, find the Custom Permalink Editor box, enter the desired path, then save or publish the entry. The custom path applies to that item. Category and tag permalinks can also be edited from the administration panel.
- Choose readable paths for blog posts.
- Set marketing-friendly paths for landing pages.
- Use branded paths for portfolio items and product pages.
- Keep a familiar URL structure when moving content from another platform.
Permalinks are sanitised automatically to keep them URL-safe. Special characters and accents are handled appropriately. Developers can use filters to adjust accent handling.
Developer filters
A filter can enable PATH_INFO support in the $_SERVER variable. Other filters can exclude selected permalinks from processing, such as a sitemap URL, or remove the Custom Permalink Editor form from a specific post type. These settings support sites with system URLs, special pages, or content types that use a various editing process.
Deactivation and changed URLs
Deactivating the add-on disables custom permalinks and returns posts and pages to their default WordPress URLs. The content remains in place; only the URLs used to access it change. When changing an existing URL, consider setting up a 301 redirect to help maintain its SEO value.
Installation and first use
- Install Custom Permalink Editor Pro in WordPress.
- Activate it from the add-ons area.
- Open a post, page, category, tag, or supported custom post type.
- Enter the preferred custom path in the editor box.
- Save or publish the item, then test the resulting permalink.
The plugin also works with multilingual add-ons such as WPML and Polylang. For technical support or custom modifications, contact Kings Crest Global through its contact form.
