Set capabilities for roles and content
PublishPress Capabilities Pro lets you edit, create, or copy WordPress roles and assign capabilities without writing code. Configure Administrators, Editors, Authors, Contributors, Subscribers, and custom roles for the work each needs to do.
Capabilities control who can publish, read, edit, and delete posts, pages, and custom post types. Assign distinct permissions to categories, tags, and other taxonomies, including WooCommerce product categories, tags, and shipping classes. You can also set who can upload, edit, or delete Media Library files, and control access to WooCommerce products, orders, and coupons.
Admin menus, pages, and editor controls
For a team member who needs part of WordPress but should not see unrelated utilities, use Admin Menus to edit menu links, add menu or submenu links and separators, and block top-level or submenu links by role. Pro also lets you conceal metaboxes for selected roles and block admin pages by URL. These controls affect what customers can see or access in the admin area; role capabilities separately determine what actions they can perform.
Editor Features can hide parts of the block editor or Classic Editor, including sidebar panels, the Publish button, the title, body, or permalink. Other settings can remove toolbar items, dashboard widgets, and Profile screen features.
Other role-based settings
- Choose which roles can send posts to each status.
- Set redirects after login, logout, or registration, including a separate first-login redirect.
- Hide frontend components, add CSS or body classes by role, and restrict navigation menus by role or logged-in status.
- Apply admin styling by role and organize admin notices.
- Test a user’s account without resetting their password.
Backups and multisite
Permission changes are backed up automatically, so you can restore an earlier role configuration if an edit has an unwanted result. Manage permissions on one website or choose to synchronize changes across a WordPress multisite network.
Set up a role’s permissions
Install and activate PublishPress Capabilities Pro, open Capabilities, and choose the role to manage. Create, copy, or edit the role, then assign its capabilities and administration controls. To configure menu access, open Admin Menus and mark the links the selected role should not access. Review the resulting permissions with the backup and user-testing tools before applying the same approach across a multisite network.
