Extend image optimization across a WordPress site

Robin Pro is a paid extension for Robin Image Optimizer. The add-on can optimize new pictures on upload and process existing Media Library images in batches. It writes optimized versions back into the Media Library without changing image URLs, so you can work with an established library without re-uploading images.

Robin optimizes JPG, PNG, and GIF documents, including animated GIFs. The base extension converts JPG and PNG images to WebP without image-count limits. Robin Pro adds AVIF conversion. Compatible browsers can receive WebP or AVIF images; browsers without support receive the original format. GIF files are optimized but are not converted to WebP or AVIF.

Choose a compression mode

Use lossless compression for logos, illustrations, or images where fidelity matters. Lossy compression applies stronger reduction while keeping quality changes minimal, and high compression aims for greater file-size reduction on image-heavy pages. Custom compression lets you set a quality level. Robin Pro's PageSpeed mode applies options tuned for PageSpeed and performance audits.

Process existing and custom image folders

Bulk optimization handles images already in the Media Library in batches. Robin Pro can also schedule background processing, which lets optimization continue gradually without tying up the WordPress administration interface. Its custom-folder option extends optimization to images outside the Media Library, including files in theme directories and plugin assets.

For command-line processes, Robin Pro includes WP-CLI commands to optimize images, stop processing, and check status. Available scopes include the Media Library, custom folders, and NextGEN.

Keep originals and choose EXIF handling

With backups enabled, Robin stores original images before optimization. You can restore an original or re-optimize an image with various compression settings. Choose whether to remove EXIF data to reduce file size and improve privacy, or preserve it for photography and workflows that use image metadata.

Set up and check delivery

Install Robin Pro in WordPress, then choose a compression mode and EXIF setting. Select automatic optimization for new uploads, bulk processing for existing Media Library images, or background processing when gradual work suits the website. Enable AVIF conversion, PageSpeed compression, or custom-folder optimization when those settings fit your workflow. Enable backups if you want to restore originals or try different compression settings. Robin's format fallbacks let supported browsers use modern image formats while other browsers receive the original format.
